Muskets vs Bows, according to the time in history when firearms sucked:
Negatives:
-Reload time (Clear barrel > Refill powder & lead) = 2 rounds dedicated reload, and that's for trained professionals.
-Very bad range falloff = It's completely inaccurate after a certain range that was shorter than bows, in addition to kickback. = TH penalty + shorter range.
-Environmental factors = Useless when the environment is wet or high humidity. Eg. Water, Rain, Tropical areas.
-Blows up in your face = Explodes in critical failure. Also blows up when badly stored.
-Hard to make and maintain = That's probably not a factor in most games..
Neutral:
-Does about the same damage as bows toward unarmored targets. (Yeah, early muskets are quite survivable.)
Positive:
-No attribute or skill requirements. = A child can just about handle a musket as good as an adult untrained, aside for kickback which you can ignore (if you're already using age penalties) when stated. Also does the same damage regardless of physical attributes.
(This was a major reason that made guns so prolific: You can always field a bunch of untrained peasants, but it takes a huge amount of resources to maintain expert marksmen.)
-Much better armor penetration (But that's only useful if your game has armor penetration.)
...Yeah, pre-modern firearms actually sucked quite bad.
